Kimes Ranch Rep Colton Farquer makes it to the pay window during round two of the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) after a rough first go.

"I broke the barrier and then the calf got up, so I got a no time in the first go round."

Even with the bad luck, Farquer didn't let it get to his head. He came back for the second round ready to play. With a good draw, he knew he had a chance at a check.

"I had a good calf that they tied pretty fast in the first round. He ran medium. They were 10.1 in the first round. So, I knew he was really good."

The calf broke good and ran medium, just like Farquer had seen in the first go.

"When he started, he took off to the right. I got it on him and made a smooth tie. I ended up 7.7"

7.7 was enough to clinch the second go round win and is currently the fastest run of the finals.

Farquer may be out of the average for the 2016 CNFR, but there is still one more round and a potential to pick upanother check. The plan for the rest of the week is still the same as this last calf.

"My plan is to take a good start, come across the barrier, and try to be fast again. I've got to win something in the go rounds."

"I won the second round in my Kimes Ranch Jeans. I hope I can say that about the third round."

This week is a busy one for the horse world. In addition to the College National Finals Rodeo going on in Casper, Wyoming, the National Reining Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) derby is happening in Paso Robles, California.

Cow horse trainers Chris Dawson and Erin Taormino are representing Kimes Ranch in the Open Derby.

Dawson and ShineySparklette, owned by Carol Rose and Dick Varner, marked a 2235in the Reining preliminaries to end up fourth. His other horse, Reyes a Shine (also owned by Rose), marked a 221.0 and ended up eighth.

Taormino marked a 217.0 in the reining preliminaries on a horse called Plain Wright, owned by J5 Horse Ranch Management.
