A Day in the Life of a Kimes Ranch Longhorn

A Day in the Life of a Kimes Ranch Longhorn

We often get asked if Kimes Ranch is actually a ranch, and the answer is yes! In their free time (which, what free time??) Matt and Amanda enjoy raising a small herd of longhorns on their ranch in Scottsdale, AZ. The ranch also serves as our headquarters and offices.

What does a day in the life of one of our longhorns look like? It's pretty cushy - take a look!

Morning: Breakfast with a View

The sun rises over the ranch, and our longhorns are already clocked in for their favorite job: grazing. The pastures at Kimes Ranch are basically their all-you-can-eat buffet.

Between mouthfuls of grass, they keep a casual eye on who’s pulling into the drive— because nothing screams “ranch welcome committee” quite like a 1,400-pound cow with six feet of horns.

Midday: Shade, Style, and Social Hour

By noon, it’s all about finding the perfect shady spot. Our barns, fences, and mesquite trees double as longhorn lounges. Sometimes, they’ll stroll along the fences to greet guests (or check if anyone’s wearing a fresh pair of Kimes jeans worth inspecting). And yes, they’re fully aware they look good — they’re basically the ranch’s runway models.

Midday Hustle: Horn Management

The horns aren’t just for show—they’re a full-time job. They hold the responsibility of representing Kimes Ranch each and every day. Have you seen our red horns logo? Iconic. Our Longhorns spend part of the day making sure they don’t bump into fences, gates, or overly curious humans. Between that, they take long walks to find the perfect patch of shade. (Pro tip: if you spot a longhorn under a tree, assume the tree belongs to the longhorn now.) They wrap up the morning with a quick stop by the horses, chickens, and a chat with Matt and Amanda Kimes to talk business and brainstorm jean ideas!

Afternoon: Water & Wandering

When the heat hits, the herd takes a trip to their favorite watering hole. Some stand knee-deep to cool off, while others just sip and supervise. Between trips, you’ll see them slowly wandering across the property like it’s their personal catwalk — which, honestly, it kind of is.

Evening: Golden Hour Glow

As the day winds down, the herd gathers in picture-perfect formation (as if they know the camera’s out). With the sun setting over the Kimes Ranch property, they settle into the cow equivalent of golden hour selfies: heads high, horns gleaming, chewing in rhythm. Check out some of our modeling photos!

Night: Security Crew On Duty

When the stars come out, the longhorns transform from chill grazers to accidental security guards. Those horns aren’t just iconic — they keep coyotes and unwanted visitors at bay. The ranch dogs assist in keeping the Kimes property safe from any and all intruders. They take their jobs very seriously. Nothing says “ranch is closed for the night” quite like a longhorn standing watch at the fence line.

Did You Know?

Our first pair of jeans were named after our first Longhorn pair, Barney (for the men) and Betty (for the women). Both jeans are a still a customer favorite to this day!

A number of our other styles also share names with Longhorns from the ranch, including the women's Chloe, Crystal, and Monica

Life at Kimes Ranch for a longhorn is all about balance: grazing, lounging, socializing, and, of course, modeling. They’re part of what makes this place feel like home — living symbols of the western lifestyle that inspire everything we do.
