At Rodeo Austin last week, Kimes Ranch athlete JC Flake (Heeler) and his partner Dustin Egusquiza (Header) put together a run that people will be talking about for a long time. The duo stopped the clock at 2.9 seconds, setting a new team roping world record, and doing it early on in their partnership.

2.9 Seconds: A Moment That Happened Fast
For JC, it didn’t fully register right away.
“When I got the steer stopped, I knew we were really fast. It wasn’t until I looked up and saw the clock that it was that fast.”
Like most great runs, it was over almost as soon as it started, but it’s one that will stick.
A Partnership Built on More Than Skill
Even though that kind of run looks like something built over years, JC and Dustin haven’t been roping together that long.
“We’ve been roping together since June 2025, Mount Pleasant, Texas was our first rodeo. We’re excited to have our first full year together this year.”
They just quickly clicked.
“Speed and consistency is what makes us click, besides being brother-in-laws and best friends. We naturally handle business with the same mindset and understanding each run.”
That trust, skill, and familiarity show up when it counts.
More Than Just a Run
Runs like that don’t just happen. They’re the result of a lot of time, consistency, and chasing something bigger.
“It’s a dream come true. It means the world to me to be able to achieve something we strive for each and every day.”
For JC, it’s a huge milestone, but also a reminder of why they continue to work hard everyday.

“My favorite is the Dillon jeans.”
