Words To Live By

Too often I have been asked why I got the words “find what you love and let it kill you” inked on my skin? Regardless of your feelings about tattoos, the feeling of having a few words strung together so artfully that they hit you so close to home, you can’t shake them is something that most can relate too. This got my wheels turning of what simple words struck a chord in others that created words that they lived by. My words to live by are written by Charles Bukowski, and it leaves a lot to interpretation. For me the equestrian world is what I love, and I will work myself to death because of my passion for all things in the industry. While working the All American Quarter Horse Congress I took a poll one night over dinner of what words other KRJ family members live by.

Tricia Sarchett, KRJ family member and your 2015 AQHA Amateur Ranch Riding World Champion, lives by the words “it is, what it is”. Rolling with the punches is definitely needed in the equine world because nothing goes according to plan and you have to learn to adapt to whatever might come your way.

Lindsay Perraton, Kimes Ranch’s marketing director lives by the words “Those who do not tire, tire adversity”. Showing her resilience in the face of hard times, which we all have fallen upon and can use these words to help us dig our way up!

Lainey Smith, our marketing intern had this to say, “almost every successful person begins with two beliefs: the future can be better than the present, and I have the power to make it so”. Keep working hard and you too could be that successful person, but it has to begin with you!

Blake Milligan, KRJ family member lives by the words “a man is not finished when he is defeated, he is finished when he quits”. Having broken his back in March of this year, Blake’s words to live by show his ability to fight through the toughest of times to get the job done and never give up.

Alisha Kurtz, owner of Woolies Quality Clothier, lives by the words “second place is the first place looser”. Being a small business owner and quite the competitive lady, this speaks to her ability and want to be the best at everything she puts her mind to!

Megan Hawkins, another KRJ family member and also AQHA competitor, lives by the words “go big or go home”. How true is this in the show pen and life? Leaving it all in the arena is the only way to live without regrets and Megan lives by these words every day!

What are some words that you live by? Please feel free to share in the comments below! I am fascinated who words can drive us to work so hard for those things we want, or bring us comfort in hard times.
